1. Itinerary Planning

Wanderlog: Instead of multiple tabs, group chats, and Google Sheets, Wanderlog is a great tool that helps you easily build and organize your itineraries in a single view. You can easily import your hotel and flight bookings, add places to your trip and see them in a map view, and organize them according to the dates of your trip! Share your trip with your friends, and collaborate on the planning in real time.

2. Eating Local

EatWith: When you're traveling, sometimes all you want is the pleasure of home-cooked food. It's not only a lovely difference from dining at restaurants all the time, but it's also a great way to learn more about local life and cuisine culture.

However, making the personal relationships that allow for this type of experience isn’t always simple, especially for shy travelers or if you are just in town for a few days. EatWith can help you with that!

The app allows you to book reservations for local-hosted culinary events all over the world. Dinners, tasting menus, market visits, and wine tastings, among other things, are frequently included in the experiences.

While browsing, you can look at photos and menus, as well as read reviews from previous visitors. You book and pay immediately within the app after selecting an experience. When you're not traveling, you can even become a host in your own town!

EatWith is currently available in over 130 countries worldwide.

3. Connecting With People

TravelBuddy: Another fantastic travel app that allows you to meet local travelers from your target destination, communicate with them to learn about places, and arrange unique experiences. To find your travel buddy, simply choose your destination, select a preferred gender for your travel buddy, and then enter your travel dates. Travel Buddy is also an excellent way to ask locals everything about your planned vacation. You may find your local travel buddy by downloading Travel Buddy free from the Play Store or the Apple Store.

MeetUp: If you want to find people or local communities with similar interests, MeetUp is a great platform to be on! With so many events and meet-ups happening, you are almost sure to find an event or group that appeals to you. And in the event that you don't, you can create your own group and event to gather people together.

4. Mobile Data

Nomad: Skip the hassle of having to change out your SIM cards when you travel. With Nomad you can get a prepaid data plan at local rates in over 100 countries! Also, we have regional plans if you are traveling to multiple countries. Not sure how much data you need or which plan to get? Our Data Calculator tool is here to help. Simply answer a few questions and get a recommendation for the plans that are most suitable for your next trip! The Nomad app is available on both App Store and Google Play store.

**P.S. Before getting any of the Nomad data plans, be sure to check our list to see if your device is eSIM compatible.

5. Expenditure

Splitwise: If you will be traveling in groups, maintaining a 'common fund' or splitting of expenditure throughout your entire trip could be troublesome - especially if there is a mixed-use of credit cards and cash. Splitwise is an app that comes in handy, allowing you to add line items of expenditure to keep track of who paid for what (and how much), and split the total expenditure equally amongst everyone in the group, so you can easily calculate and settle your bills at the end of the trip.

Revolut: Revolut is a virtual bank that offers you the ability to have digital wallets in multiple currencies. With Revolut, you can spend in over 150 different currencies at relatively good exchange rates, get local cash from ATMs, and transfer money globally through one account. Revolut also categorizes and analyses your expenses, so you can keep track of your trip expenses.

6. Flights

Skyscanner: This is basically an app that is listing instant online comparisons for commercial airline flights, plus hotels and car hires. It compares various airlines and online travel agents to provide you with the cheapest flights to your destination!

We can especially single out two amazing features of the Skyscanner app here.

The first one is the price chart: In an intuitive and interactive monthly bar chart, you can see your search results per day. This is fantastic in so many ways, and it means you can immediately decide which is the cheapest date to book the flight within a certain time frame.

The second feature is that you don't even need to know where you're going! The Explore option shows you where it is cheapest to fly based solely on your fixed dates or a broad time period, making it an ideal tool for the early stages of your trips.

7. Accommodations

Hostelworld: We like this one because it’s a unique twist on the traditional hotel-booking apps. While some booking sites like Booking.com lists almost every type of accommodation including place wanting to call themselves a "hostel" (but really aren't), Hostelworld is much more selective. These guys believe in building a community first and showing you listings second, so if you’re in the mood for a backpacker experience you can be sure that the accommodations on Hostelworld are backpacker-friendly and verified.

Airbnb: Probably the most well-known site on our list of the top 10 travel websites and apps, Airbnb connects you with apartments and homes for rent. Airbnb has you covered if you want to stay in a treehouse or a gypsy van!

8. Transportation

Moovit: This app offers tourists a one-stop shop journey experience to help them go from point A to point B in the quickest and most efficient way possible. You can easily get train and bus timings, maps, and real-time arrival information so you can plan your trip with certainty. You also can pay and validate your rides. It has everything you need to travel in a foreign country like a local!

9. Language

Google Translate: Enter a word or phrase into the dialogue box to have it translated into the language of your choice. Google Translate supports more than fifty languages.

Another great option offered by Google Translate is the option to translate some text directly using your phone's camera. This can help you a lot to find out about transportation, restaurants, or even menus! You can also download the language you need for offline use.

10. Travel Inspiration

Nomad: Don’t miss out on Nomad's Destination Finder tool! Select your travel month, and weather preferences, and let us do the rest! We'll generate personalized travel recommendations just for you.
