Paris, the City of Light, will shine even brighter as it hosts the Summer Olympics (26 July - 11 August) this year. This iconic city is gearing up to welcome visitors from around the world for a celebration of sports, culture, and camaraderie. If you, like many others, are flying in to Paris to witness and experience the excitement of this global event, here are some essential tips to make the most of your trip.

1. Book your attraction tickets in advance

If you are already traveling to Paris to watch the Olympics games, chances are that you will also take the opportunity to sightsee.

Even without the Olympics, summer is peak travel season all across Europe, and it is already normally difficult to get tickets to major attractions like the Eiffel Tower. With the Olympics and greater tourist numbers, there is much higher competition for the tickets to these attractions.

If you have not already secured the tickets for the attractions that you want to visit, you might possibly want to consider getting them already! And in case where the official tickets are already sold out, consider getting skip-the-line tickets from travel agencies and sites like Viator or GetYourGuide. These tickets could be slightly pricier but it will definitely save you the trouble of having to stand in queue and hoping for same-day tickets!

2. Be aware of your surroundings

Look out for petty theft and pickpockets, especially if you are in crowded places and at major tourist destinations.

Crowded places and major events such as the Olympics are often good targets for pickpockets and petty theft, so you might want to be doubly careful. Consider getting an anti-theft backpack, or carry your backpack in front of you.

Minimise using your phone while walking or in transit so that you don’t draw attention to yourself and don’t become an easy target for snatch thieves.

3. Plan for congestions and crowds

Again, it will be crowded. That usually also means increased transit time whether you are on the road or taking public transit.

Popular restaurants may also be crowded, and you might have to wait in line to visit attractions especially if you don’t have a ticket. And even if you do have a ticket, most attractions will still require you to go through security screening, which might take a while.

While planning your itinerary, remember to put in additional buffer and factor in possible delays and additional time required. Don’t over-stuff your itinerary with activities and attractions!

4. Stay hydrated and stay safe

Paris doesn’t have an intense summer and temperatures are often still rather manageable - of course, unless hit by a heat wave.

We understand that looking for public toilets when you are out might sometimes be a pain, and many people might avoid drinking too much water when traveling to reduce the need of having to look for one.

However, it is very important for you to stay hydrated. The last thing you want is to fall sick while traveling. Consider also getting some isotonic drinks to help keep yourself hydrated on days where you’ll be outdoors.

As you will be in crowded places, consider also wearing a mask to prevent the spread of viruses and to bring along hand sanitisers to keep your hands clean!

5. Stay connected with a travel eSIM

Whether you are keeping in touch with your friends and families or using the map apps to help you navigate, having Internet connectivity while traveling is very important in this day and age.

There are many options out there for you to stay connected while traveling - from simply turning on international roaming to getting a local SIM card. But, one of the best ways to staying connected internationally is to use a travel eSIM! A travel eSIM is a good option, providing a good balance between cost and convenience.

With travel eSIMs, you can enjoy data connectivity at near-local rates, without the hassle of having to change out your physical SIM card or to queue up in stores at the airport. And, if you are taking the chance to travel to other countries in the region as well, regional eSIMs will allow you to seamlessly travel across borders without losing connection!
