1. KattenKabinet (Cat Cabinet)

Amsterdam has a lot of museums to check out, but a museum devoted to works about cats? You probably really don't want to miss this.

KattenKabinet, or Cat Cabinet Amsterdam, is a museum dedicated entirely to cats in art and culture. The museum is located in a beautiful canal-side house not far from the iconic Bloemenmarket.

Here, you'll find an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and artifacts celebrating our feline friends. Learn about the role that cats have played in art and culture, and find out more about the how the different artists have included cats in their work. And don't be surprised if you encounter a few real-life cats roaming the museum—they're part of the charm!

But remember that the cats do not always like being pet, and there have been visitors who have been scratched by the cats before. Heed the warnings of the curators and be careful when you approach the fur-balls!

2. De Poezenboot (The Cat Boat)

Take a stroll along Amsterdam's picturesque canals and make your way to De Poezenboot, the world's only floating cat sanctuary. Founded in 1966 as a home for stray and abandoned cats, The Cat Boat is now an official charity providing a refuge for stray and abandoned cats.

The cats at De Poezenboot are open for adoption; but if you are a tourist who is simply looking to visit, you are also welcome to do so! The Cat Boat is open 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 1pm - 3pm for visitors.

Entrance to The Cat Boat is free, but you can make a donation to help their cause. If you are planning to visit, make a reservation in advance.

3. Kattencafe Kopjes (Amsterdam Cat Cafe)

Cat cafes can be found in many cities across the world, and of course, that includes Amsterdam! The first cat cafe in Amsterdam, Kopjes is a home for rescue cats and a cozy space for those looking to spend a relaxing afternoon in the company of these beautiful felines.

The cafe is open from 10am to 7pm from Wednesdays to Sundays. There’s an entrance fee of 5 EUR per person, which goes towards the cats’ care.

Note that children under the age of 12 are not allowed, as they could be a little too high in energy and cause discomfort to the cats. The cafe is also rather small, and can only fit about 10 people - so it is recommended to make a reservation in advance.

Remember to follow the house rules and not disrupt the comfort of the kitties!
